Configure article audience rules with All or Any

Configure article audience rules with All or Any matching mode to control whether readers must satisfy every attribute rule or just one to view your article.

When your article audience has two or more attribute rules, you pick whether readers must match every rule or just one of them. That choice decides who sees the article.

Set the match mode

  1. Open the audience configuration for your article
Go to the audience settings of the article you want to restrict.

  2. Add at least two attribute rules
Set up the attribute rules for your audience. You can choose between "All" and "Any" once the audience has at least two rules.

  3. Choose "All" or "Any"
Select the mode that fits who should see the article:

    • "All": Every rule has to match.
    • "Any": At least one rule has to match.

Your choice affects how the audience is evaluated, the match counts you see, and which articles readers get. The API follows the same mode. Audiences that existed before you changed anything stay on "All" and behave as they did before.

  4. Add rules that share an attribute (optional, "Any" only)
If you picked "Any", you can create multiple rules that use the same attribute.

Switch from "Any" back to "All"

  1. Remove duplicate-attribute rules
The "All" option is disabled while your audience has more than one rule using the same attribute. Delete the duplicates so each attribute appears in only one rule.

  2. Select "All"
Once no duplicates remain, select "All". From then on, every rule has to match.
