Publish an article internally
Publish a draft article as internal to make its content available to AI Search, the answer agent, and customer bots while keeping it hidden from readers
Publishing an article as internal lets AI Search, the built-in AI, and customer bots use its content, while readers never see it. Before you start, make sure the article is saved as a draft inside a Help Center.
Publish the draft as internal
-
Open the draft article
Open "Help Centers" and choose the Help Center that contains your draft. In its article list, select the draft to open it in the editor. -
Open the Publish dropdown
In the editor, open the dropdown beside the "Publish" button. Don't click "Publish" itself, because that publishes the article publicly. -
Select "Publish as internal"
Choose "Publish as internal" from the menu. You don't need to fill in any fields, and there's no confirmation step. The article's status changes to "Internal" right away.
An internal article has no public URL. It doesn't appear in your Help Center's navigation, search results, sitemaps, RSS feeds, widget suggestions, or end-user citations. AI Search, the answer agent, and the Content API can still use its content. Internal visibility doesn't override your configured audience rules, so those rules still apply to the article.
