How to unpublish a Help Center article
Unpublish an article by clicking the status dropdown showing "Live" in the editor's action bar and selecting "Unpublish" to convert it back to draft status
Unpublishing turns a published article back into a draft, so it's no longer published in your Help Center for readers. You need to be signed in with access to the organization that owns the article.
Open the article
-
Open your Help Center
In the left navigation, open the "Knowledge" section and select the Help Center that contains the article. Its content view opens. -
Select the article
Find the article in the content tree and click its title. Expand its folder first if you need to. The article opens in the editor. -
Check the article's status
Look at the status in the editor's top action bar. A published article in a Help Center folder shows "Live." If it shows "Processing…" or "Failed," the visibility menu isn't available: wait for processing to finish or resolve the failed state before you continue.
Unpublish it
-
Open the visibility menu
Click the dropdown chevron beside "Live." If the article is published as internal, it shows an "Internal" status instead. Open its status menu the same way. -
Select "Unpublish"
Click "Unpublish" in the menu. There's no confirmation dialog and nothing else to fill in. -
Confirm the new status
The article stays open in the editor, and its visibility control changes to "Publish." That's your only sign it worked, since no separate success message appears. The article is now a draft and is no longer published in the Help Center.
If the article doesn't belong to your active organization, the status change can't be applied. Switch to the organization that owns it and try again.
