How to Embed a Google Drive Video in a Help Article
Embed Google Drive videos in help articles using the Insert Video dialog in the editor, which displays them as an embedded player for readers.
You can add a Google Drive video to an article with the editor's "Insert Video" dialog, and it shows up as an embedded player. You'll need an article you can edit. Translations are read-only, so open the original language version.
Open the article
-
Open your Help Center
In the left-hand "Knowledge" section, click the Help Center you want to work in. Its "Content" page opens. -
Open the article
Find the article in the article list and click its title to open it in the editor. If you see a "Read-only" message saying you're "viewing the [language] translation" and "Only the original language can be edited," you're on a translation and the formatting toolbar is disabled. Switch to the original language to continue.
Insert the Google Drive video
-
Choose where the video goes
Place your cursor where you want the video. You can also select text, and the video will replace it. -
Open the "Insert Video" dialog
Click the "Insert Video" button in the formatting toolbar. The "Insert Video" dialog opens. -
Paste your Google Drive link
Paste the link into the "Video URL" field. The editor accepts these Drive links:- A file link in the form
drive.google.com/file/d/{file ID}/..., which gets converted to a Drive preview link - A Drive preview link
When the link is recognized, you'll see "Google Drive detected" and "Video will be embedded using Google Drive's player," followed by a "Preview."
If you see "Google Drive detected" but no preview appears, your link doesn't include a recognized file ID. The dialog won't show any other error for this, so paste a Drive file link or preview link instead. If you see "Unsupported platform," the link isn't from Google Drive or another supported site.
