How to Add a Web Address Link to a Help Center Article
Add web address links to Help Center article text by selecting words, clicking Insert Link, entering the URL and link text, then saving your changes.
You can turn text in a Help Center article into a link that points to an external web address. To do this, you need an editable article. A read-only translated view doesn't allow editing.
Open the article
-
Go to your Help Center's content
From the main product, select your Help Center in the left navigation, then select "Content." -
Open the article you want to update
In the content view, open the article from the article and group navigation.
Insert the link
-
Place your cursor or select text
In the article body, click where the link should go, or select the words you want to turn into a link. -
Click "Insert Link"
In the editor toolbar beside the article, click the "Insert Link" button. The "Insert link" dialog opens. If you selected words, they're carried into the dialog as the suggested link text. -
Choose "Web address"
In the toggle beside the dialog title, choose "Web address." The dialog switches to the web address fields. Use this option for an external destination. To link to a Help Center article instead, choose the other option. -
Enter the URL and link text
- Type the destination into the "URL" field. It's required, and "Insert link" stays disabled until you fill it in. The field shows
https://example.comas its placeholder. - In "Link text," enter the words readers should see. This field is optional. If you leave it blank, the URL itself becomes the visible text. If you selected text in the article, it's already filled in, and you can change it.

Click "Insert link"
Click the "Insert link" button at the bottom of the dialog. The dialog closes and your text appears as a link in the article editor. The article now has unsaved changes.
Save the article
- Click "Save"
Click "Save" in the unsaved-changes bar at the bottom of the editor. When the save works, the unsaved-changes bar clears. You won't see a separate success message. If you see "Failed to update article. Please try again.", your change hasn't been saved, so click "Save" again.
