Setting up a custom domain for your Help Center

You can connect your own domain to your Help Center so visitors see your brand instead of the default URL. This guide walks you through entering your domain, configuring DNS records, and verifying the connection.

Enter your domain

1. Open the Custom Domain Settings
   Go to the Custom Domain Settings section of your Help Center. If you already have a domain configured, you'll see it displayed at the top of the page along with its current status.

2. Enter your domain name
   Click the domain name input field and type your custom domain. You can use either a subdomain format (like docs.example.com) or a root domain format (like example.com). The field validates your input as you type, and any errors appear below the field.

Configure your DNS records

3. Review the DNS configuration
   After entering your domain, the DNS configuration section updates automatically based on what you entered.

   For subdomains, you'll see CNAME record instructions with three values:

   • Type: CNAME
   • Name: Your subdomain prefix (for example, docs)
   • Value: The CNAME target endpoint

   For root domains, you'll see A or ALIAS record instructions:

   • Type: A or ALIAS
   • Name: @
   • Value: The CNAME target

4. Copy the configuration values
   Click the copy icon next to the Name and Value fields to copy each value to your clipboard. Add these records to your DNS provider's settings.

   DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate.

Save and verify

5. Save your domain
   Click "Save Changes" to save your domain configuration. The button shows "Saving..." while processing.

6. Verify your DNS setup
   If your domain status shows as pending or failed, click "Verify DNS" to manually check whether your DNS records are configured correctly. The button shows "Verifying..." during the check. If verification fails, an alert appears asking you to check your CNAME record configuration.

7. Monitor the domain status
   A status badge next to your domain shows the current state: Pending, Verified, Failed, or Active. Once your DNS records propagate and verification succeeds, the status changes to Active.

To remove your domain later, click "Remove Domain" and confirm the deletion when prompted.
