How to edit an article after recording

After recording your help article steps, you'll often need to make edits to improve clarity, add formatting, or include additional content. This guide shows you how to enhance your recorded article using the help article editor's various editing tools.

Text Formatting and AI Assistance

  1. Format your text
    Select the text you want to format by clicking and dragging over it. Use the formatting toolbar on the left side to apply styles like bold, italic, or different heading levels (H1, H2, H3).

  2. Use AI to improve your content
    After selecting text, click the "Write with AI" button that appears. Enter instructions like "Make it shorter" to condense your content, then click "Update" to see the AI-generated suggestion.

  1. Accept or reject AI suggestions
    Review the AI-generated text in the suggestion box. Click "Accept" to apply the changes to your article, or "Reject" to keep your original text.

Managing Article Properties

  1. Add tags to your article
    In the Article settings sidebar on the right, click on "Tags" to expand the section. Click "Add tag" and select or create tags to categorize your article for better organization and searchability.

  2. Access recording settings
    Click on "Recording" in the Article settings sidebar to view and manage your recorded steps. You'll see a preview of your recording and thumbnails of all captured step images.

Working with Images and Media

  1. Insert step images into your article
    From the Recording section, drag any step image thumbnail directly into your article content where you want it to appear. The image will be inserted with a loading animation while it processes.

  1. Remove unwanted step images
    If you've inserted a step image you no longer need, click the small "x" in the top-right corner of the image block to remove it from your article.

  2. Upload external images
    Click on "External Images" in the Article settings sidebar, then click "Upload" to add images from your computer that you can use throughout your article.

  3. Embed videos
    Click the video icon in the formatting toolbar. In the "Insert Video" dialog, paste a URL from YouTube, Loom, or Google Drive into the "Video URL" field. Click "Insert Video" to embed the video in your article.

    Select the text you want to turn into a link, then click the link icon in the formatting toolbar. In the "Insert Link" dialog, search for and select the help article you want to link to, then click "Insert Link".

  2. Switch between internal and external links
    In the Insert Link dialog, use the "Help Article" and "External Link" tabs to switch between linking to articles in your Help Center or external websites.

Download or delete

  1. Access article actions
    Click on "Actions" at the bottom of the Article settings sidebar to download article in html or markdown. You can also delete the article here forever.

Saving Your Changes

Throughout your editing process, the editor tracks unsaved changes at the bottom of the screen. Click "Save" to preserve your edits, or "Discard" to revert to the last saved version.

After completing these edits, your article will be updated with improved formatting, embedded media, and helpful links that enhance the reader's experience.
